Australia Update
posted by NikiJG´day!
A little update, I didn´t feel like writing a blog and have been very busy the past couple of days.
Little recap of Melbourne:
Played some poker, broke even there.
Couldn´t win anything in either the 50k or 25k sngs we played, but won in all 3 cash game sessions I played in.
Eventhough I made no money here, this still gives me confidence for a couple of reasons.
1.) there were some though opponents in those games
2.) we played all sorts of different games I usually never play, but managed to hold my own in all of them. We played Holdem NL, PL and Limit; Omaha Hi PL and Limit; and Omaha Hi/Lo Limit
Aside from that, what made these games so nice were just the people, all of them very nice and entertaining. I don´t like to regard poker as work, but that is what it is when you are not enyoing yourself at the table. Breaking even in such a game makes me sick, while I´m totally fine with it in an entertaining game.
I also played the Pokernews Cup 3k MainEvent and just left after a while because I got bored. I was playing with 8 online freeroll winners and it was pure torture. Another 3k completely wasted, a lot more in equity, since this was probably the easiest tournament to make a big score in.
Anyways, I still got out with a nice profit thanks to Baccarat!
Just so you know, it is a stupid game and I plan to never play again. It can be quite entertaining if you play with a group of friends, but the mood also swings with the stack sizes.
There is one advantage to playing High stakes table games:
Everything gets comped. I didn´t pay for my hotel suite, my flight, restaurant bills, drinks, laundry.
So if I stick to my plan and leave my fingers of the house games, I would be one of the lucky people who got away from them with a profit.
Melbourne was great, nice and friendly poker, people and good food.
I then flew into the sunshine coast yesterday, and I´m loving it.
When I got of the plane, I was immidiately overwhelmed by this feeling of happiness that warmth triggers in people. A nice wind was blowing at 25°C in the evening.
I checked into a nice appartement, did a little walk down to the beach, got some sushi at a place I allready knew from my trip in March, and eventually fell in my bed with a big smile on my face. God, do I love this place.
Now I just woke up, did a little walk again to get some breakfast, and sit on the terrace right now just watching the waves.

hi
i dont know if ever1 is aware of the latest results for this guys game but it aint lookin good. while he won over 3m as kaibuxxe hes now going in a straight line (downhill ) to the micro limits, lol. the dude is over 600k down as nikij. the question is what if he just was a lucky dude and now without luck he cant win. if u ask me this dude is doing something wrong, poker aint al about luck u must win on a regular basis also.
do ppl agree with me or am i totaly wrong?
at 7:18 pm 9
yes I agree but he had also a big 600k downswing before he had this huge millions-upswing. I think he is a good player with a lag of discipline. May this vacation gives him new energy and the mental strength to beat these limits in longterm. but Im a low-limit-player so I can be wrong ;)

So you paid 3k to enter a poker tournament but then left because you were bored? Well I think its about time you found another profession, why do it if it bores you? Not having a go or anything just find this a bit strange.
at 7:56 pm 12
he does not only get borred at poker tournaments, hes blog getting alot more off topic these days also, like ” i didnt play much today but i heading back to the casino with my homies to drink some cosmopolitans” I agree that this guy needs a new hobby. maybe should get a job as the new “the thirsty poker-traveler” gettin drunk and playing poker around the world and getting paid for it, what a dream.
ps: how much can the real thirsty traveler realy drink anyway, he got skillz
at 9:25 pm 13
maybe he got a little lag of dicipline but what you all think? that he comes on july with some bux to tilt, won some mills and thats his hole history? lol Much wish he go broke soon couze they are micro/low limit donks and are just jealous

Hi!
Have read most of your blog, and think you have a good life, but as somebody else said; there is more to life than poker (and gambling).
You have absolutely been on the top, and I don’t want to see you broke.
Allways hard to take advice from someone, but I paste in what I wrote earlier in your blog in august:
“Hi!
Have to say you have quite impressive results in your pokerplaying!
From what I read you sound both realistic and smart.
As a pokerplayer myself, I have an advice that I hardly follow myself:
When you have won a lot of money like you have(?), the best ting to do is:
take the most of your bankroll away and put it into some safe investments, and don’t thouch your investments!
That way you will always have a steady income, whatever happens at the pokertables.
I’ve seen a lot of young talented people going to the top…..and down again.
Guess not this will happen to you, but anyway when times are getting hard, it is good to have something left, and not only memories.
Take care, be solid and still good luck! :-)”

I find it interesting that so many guys who have most likely never made close to a million dollars playing poker, love to give advice or critique the play of a guy who HAS won millions himself. It seems like the peanutt gallery grows larger on the internet. If any of you guys knew the swings of players who play at the highest nl tables online, maybe you wouldnt be so quick to jump on the quit poker bandwagon. I play for a living myself and have had enough people tell me to quit when things have gone a little bad, to know that 99 percent of the time, you should disregard it. Keep grinding the tables Nik.
Cheers

Zac, I wasn’t saying anything about Niki playing bad or anything like that, I know he’s a great player! Its just the fact that he paid 3k to enter a poker tournament but then left because he was bored which I find very strange.
at 5:55 am 21
Ash, I wasn’t really referring to your comment. I mainly was responding to the comments posted under the Quitting Poker update. But even the walking off out of boredom in a 3K event has got to be put into perspective. I don’t know what his bankroll is right now, but from reading this blog, it seems like it is between 1 and 3 million? I’m not sure. So if he has a bankroll of 2 million lets say, then that 3K tournament is .5 percent of his roll. I agree that you should be motivated to play in any game, but as most pro players would know when you are in a tournament that locks you down to play for a certain amount of time, you can get very bored when its such a minimal percentage of your bankroll. Sometimes its even a smarter to walk away when that happens. When you are bored, your game won’t be that good, you will be better off playing in a cash game where your focus is high and you’ll probably make more money. I got bored in a 3 dollar event a few days ago, which is pretty much the same variance to my bankroll as 3K is to Niki’s.

i think this dude just dont wanna post anymore on his blog coz hes losing big time on FTP. he is bleedin money almost every time he plays there. its like US and their war on Irak ffs, fighting in a war they cant win and wasting hilarious amounts of money, lol. anyway im sad when i say we have seen the last of this dudes glory days since hes was just on a rush before. but i strongly believe that hes capable of makin a good profit on lower stakes, lets say 10/ 20 or 25/50.
peace

Its not really about “losing big time” , as far as I’m concerned he’s writing his articles at www.overcards.de now, its german only so I guess he got offered a good deal for letting down his international “fanbase” …
